Dr. Mervat Hatem Sharabati-Shahin
Dr. Mervat Hatem Sharabati-Shahin was born in Hebron, Palestine. She has finished her PhD in April 2012 with DISTINCTION from University of Malaya, Malaysia, where she had previously finished her Master’s degree in Science & Technology Studies in 2007. She holds a B.Sc. in Biology from Hebron University, Palestine. Her PhD thesis was on Palestinian Diaspora Entrepreneurship as a Driving Force in the Knowledge Economy, where she created a model for connecting Diaspora with their mother country – Palestine- for the enhancement of science and technology as a mean for development in Palestine.
Her Masters project was on building “A Framework for University-Industry Relationships for the Advancement of Science & Technology as An Enabled and Enabling Force in Palestine”. The master project was published as her first book in April, 2013 by Lambert Academic Publishing’s. She has published several papers in journals, conferences and chapter in book.
She has worked as research assistant and coordinator at University of Malaya.
She worked as Research coordinator for ANGKASAWAN project, a project that was carried on under the authority of Ministry of Science and Technology, Malaysia.
She worked as a consultant; Mentor; Coach; and Trainer for Entrepreneurs with many projects such as:
Build Your Business (BYB) at Palestine Information and Communications Technology Incubator (PICTI)
Teacher Educator Enhancement Program (TEEP) for Technology teachers
“My project starts with an idea” Project at friends of Fawzi Kawash IT Center of Excellence, Palestine Polytechnic University
She was a member of the evaluation committee of the local business plan competition “New Generation of Technology Entrepreneurs”, held at friends of Fawzi Kawash IT Center of Excellence, Palestine Polytechnic University in cooperation with Leaders Organization and Birzeit University, October 2012.
Dr. Mervat has attended several TOT’s programs, including BYB (Build Your Business) organized by USAID, Microsoft and International Youth Foundation.
Recently, Dr. Mervat finished 270 hour of capacity-building program in the area of Technology from University of Massachusetts as “Teacher Educator Enhancement Program” (TEEP).
Currently, she is involved with the Leadership and Teacher Development (LTD) Program which is jointly implemented by Ministry of Education (Palestine) and AMIDEAST that will last until the spring of 2016.
